Knights Corner
As Spring ends and Summer begins, the Knights have a busy agenda for the
upcoming months. The accompanying picture shows some of the Youth Ministry
participants who helped the Knights in their White Cross Project from last year. The white
crosses were constructed by Knight Ed Pohl who then got help from Youth
Ministry in the painting of these crosses. These crosses will be displayed during October, Respect Life Month.
Another THANK YOU goes out to those parishioners and Knights who made the
recent fundraiser at Made In Italy Trattoria such a huge success. Proceeds from
this fundraiser will be used toward the many charities that the Knights of St.
James the Apostle Council #9806 support. Look for future Knights Corner articles
as to which charities are impacted.
The weekend of September 16-18 will see many of the Knights in the streets of
Glen Ellyn soliciting funds for their annual ID (or Tootsie Roll) Drive. All proceeds
from this drive go toward agencies that support the Intellectually Disabled. The
two local charities that Council #9806 support are Parents Alliance in Lisle, IL and
STARS Family Services in Wheaton, IL. When you see the Knights in their yellow
aprons and with their yellow donation cans, please be as generous as you have always
been.
Friday August 18th, 2023 is the date of the annual Tom Shanley Memorial Golf Outing. This event is co-sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and St. James School with profits going toward the parish Education Fund. Expect to see Knights in the narthex these next few weekends selling chances on the ever-popular “Rollin on the Green” golf ball drop. So, golfers get ready to come out and play a round. If you are not a golfer, then plan on joining many of your fellow parishioners for dinner and festivities that evening. We can always use volunteers of any age!!
If you have the desire to learn more about the Knights and the many activities
that they support in the parish, see any of the current Knights to get more
information or visit https://koc9806.org/join-the-knights-of-columbus/. We would be glad to answer any questions and would be especially glad to welcome you as a member.
